Earlier this year, I witnessed two people exchange vows before God and family in an intimate ceremony. It was the most beautiful, lump-in-throat wedding I’ve ever attended, and mainly because it was my baby brother Jarryd.

Gosh, it was just the other day that he was a toddler and now, thanks to God’s grace he is all grown and has matured into a responsible, young man. Witnessing him and Taslyn (or should I say Mrs Kast, as she loves telling us) exchange vows before God reminded me that while this might be 2019, and people prefer to “shack it up”, the sanctity of marriage still remains relevant and ever so important.

Forget the actual event for a second because that is not the focal point. It’s the firm foundation (read: God) and ultimate reason for this union that many appear to be overlooking these days.

Marriage is and should always be securely cemented on one thing and one thing alone – the Sovereign God whose unending love and teachings stand the test of time. Yes, love, commitment, devotion, honesty, trust and all those other things are important… after God has confirmed and established that two people should enter into the covenant of marriage.

The sanctity of marriage remains relevant…

It wasn’t long after we celebrated Jarryd and Taslyn’s *big* day, that I received news from two friends who will also be walking down the aisle later this year. The two are super thrilled and can’t wait to pronounce their love before God, family and friends. But, like my one friend pointed out that more than anything, they see their weddings as a reminder of God’s faithfulness in their respective lives. And that what He has predestined… joined together, nothing and no one can derail. (These two friends have the most amazing testimony and is a post for another day).

I’d like to encourage someone out there today, don’t be moved by your situation and hold onto the promise that God’s perfect plan always manifests at the appointed time. Any preconceived ideas or plans we might have about our lives means zero if it’s outside of the will of God.

For anyone who is married, feels challenged and as though you can’t go on then get on your knees and pray. Strong unions and solid families overflowing with love, kindness, compassion and all round goodness is what this world needs.

So fight. Fight through prayer (and fasting if need be) for your spouse and your family. There’s never been a more relevant time for us to pray for the preservation of the sanctity of marriage and restoration of families like right now… all for God’s glory.

Have you ever had one of those seasons where it feels like the walls are caving in?
Like you just can’t go on anymore because your plan has taken a nosedive?

That time you find yourself throwing your hands in the air and yelling, ‘that’s it… I’m done… I’m over all of this.’

Well, I’m here to encourage you.

You can go on.
You will fulfill your purpose.
You will be glad that you held on.

I write this from first hand experience.
Those in my inner circle will attest to the fact that I too have temper tantrum moments… and on occasion through the snot and tears have made some rather ridiculous comments.
Thankfully, His grace trumps it all.

I was reminded recently that at the core of walking in purpose is giving up the right to do things our way.

This reminder was all thanks to an amazing young lady (that’s a blog for another day – an old soul with the biggest heart, full of potential and promise), who (unconsciously) made me realise that it’s easier to take the lessons from the pain and press on.

Don’t fight the process.
As the purpose unfolds, there’s a process running parallel and so instead of walking/working against the grain… just surrender.

We don’t need to know all the details but simply trust implicitly that it’s all going to pan out as it should – Romans 8:28.

When we choose to walk in purpose, our feelings, emotions and self-imposed deadlines take a back seat because it’s **never** about us.

It’s about a bigger plan, all orchestrated by the Master Himself.
A purpose that drives kindness, peace, hope and compassion. A purpose that comes to life when we choose to serve with (unconditional) love.

So… wherever you find yourself in this moment, I pray that you never choose to stop living on purpose… and just trust the process.

Thank you for taking the time to read.

1 November…

I’m not going to state the obvious about how this year has whizzed by. No.

I’d like to get us all thinking about something else.

At the start of each year most of us set out to achieve certain goals. Some are easier to achieve than others and this makes us feel rather chuffed; like well-rounded, disciplined, balanced beings 🙂

As I sat reflecting earlier today, the one nagging question that kept popping up: were your goals in line with God’s will?

Mmmm… let’s see.

I’ll give you some time to chew on that…

If you look back on your 2015 to-do list, how much of it contribute to your purpose driven life?
Are any of your objectives in line with advancing your Kingdom assignment?

I hope that when you sit and reflect about the last 10 months you are satisfied with:

* your personal growth
* your choices for self and others
* your behaviour towards self and others
* your thoughts/words spoken about self and others
* your commitment to your work
* your time spent – on self and others

Over the coming weeks, I’d like to challenge you to be kind to yourself (and others). In a previous post I spoke about choosing the high road… do it. If not for anyone else but for you.

YOU dear reader, are a beautiful, kind, caring, compassionate, wonderful soul with a heart of gold. Your mere existence lights up the world for so many people – you might not know it but it’s true.

Now go out there and make the rest of this year spectacular, because YOU can.

Thank you for taking the time to read.

Last night I came across a trending topic (#ImOldEnoughToKnow) on Twitter that got me to sit back and think. Here are a few of things I’ve come to realise:

I’m old enough to know… the Author and Finisher and that He has the final say in all matters.

I’m old enough to know… that the winds of change are essential to our journey.

I’m old enough to know… when to keep quiet and simply listen.

I’m old enough to know… who is in my front row.

I’m old enough to know… why they were chosen to be part of my story.

I’m old enough to know… that what others think or say about me is really none of my business.

I’m old enough to know… that the choices I make have consequences.

I’m old enough to know… that I alone take responsibility for my actions.

I’m old enough to know… that it’s okay that I don’t always have all the answers.

I’m old enough to know… that I need to trust the process even when it doesn’t make sense.

I’m old enough to know… that it’s okay to be in a funk but the important thing is to snap out of it.

I’m old enough to know… that not everyone who smiles is in your corner.

I’m old enough to know… that you will meet Judas along your path; pray and let God take control.

I’m old enough to know… that when people choose to act disrespectfully, it’s not about you.

I’m old enough to know… that your purpose means you won’t win any popularity contest. That’s fine.

I’m old enough to know… that there’s a time to blend and a time to sit still and stay in your lane.

I’m old enough to know… that the hurt, pain and tears will eventually give way to smiles and peace.

I’m old enough to know… love is everything.

I’m old enough to know… that staying true to YOU is what is important.

I’m old enough to know… that God alone will vindicate you. Always. His grace is sufficient.

Thank you for taking the time to read.

Over the last few days most of my conversations with friends and complete strangers was around forgiveness.

No, I’m not going to launch into some sermon, or tell you to pick up the phone blah blah blah. I’d like to encourage you to take some quiet time out for YOU, and during this time I hope you choose to do the following:

Forgive yourself.
Forgive yourself for poor choices.
Forgive yourself for a lapse in judgment.
Forgive yourself for what has happened in the past; some things are beyond your control.
Forgive yourself for being impatient.
Forgive yourself for snapping & firing off unkind words.
Forgive yourself for not taking a chance and choosing to stay in a comfort zone.
Forgive yourself for not being as generous as you hoped to be.
Forgive yourself for being grumpy.
Forgive yourself for trusting someone even though the red flags were right in front of you.
Forgive yourself for not walking away from a relationship or association before things went really sour.
Forgive yourself for making the same mistake twice.
Forgive yourself for holding on to anything or anyone that’s holding you back; make the break now.

You see, this is life… there’s no one size fits all approach. The important thing is to find what works for YOU.

We live. We learn. We grow. We share. We care. We rise. We stumble. We fall. We evolve.

Today, remind yourself:
This is my journey.
This is my story.
These are my choices.

Thank you for taking the time to read.

Today, I write with a very heavy heart.
My mentor is leaving the pristine shores of the Indian Ocean and evergreen lush bushes of Richards Bay to take up a brilliant opportunity on the opposite side of the globe.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m absolutely thrilled for him but shattered because he’s been such a fantastic voice of reason.
On so many occasions. And yes, I know in this age of technology communication won’t be a problem.
I’m old school… nothing beats face to face interaction.

Indulge me for a moment…

Dear Mentor,

Where do I start? What do I say?

Once again congratulations on this fantastic opportunity. Your new organisation has absolutely no idea of what a gem they have in you; as an individual and member of the greater team.

I hope that this little note will express my utmost gratitude. Thank you for agreeing to be my mentor, for the meaningful contribution and enormous impact you’ve had. Yes, you’ve helped shaped my journey for the better… you best believe it!

The wisdom you imparted has without a doubt been a tremendous help and the support was priceless. And it is at this point that the tears are beginning to sting and I’m trying very hard to choke back what could potentially turn into the Niagara Falls.

I think the one thing that I will forever treasure is the renewed sense of purpose that you helped me regain. You showed me how to take a step back, put things into perspective…

Just knowing that you were in my corner infused a degree of boldness that ordinarily would not come to the fore – thank you.

You believed in me. Thank you.
You’ve inspired me. Thank you.
You’ve helped me put my career into perspective. Thank you.
You’ve shown me the value of authentic leadership. Thank you.
You’ve shown me the value of honesty. Thank you.
You’ve shown me the value of sincerity. Thank you.
You’ve shown me the value of trust in the workplace. Thank you.
You’ve shown me that I have what it takes to lead. Thank you.

Thank you, a million times over, for your time, support and more importantly, patience.

And so my prayer for you is:

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Till the next time we meet!

Thank you for taking the time to read.
