This post is courtesy of a conversation I had with a dear friend yesterday. For purposes of this (and future posts) I shall refer to him as Positive Paul. We all need that one friend who can lift the band aid off in one go and after it’s done you still feel like you are walking on sunshine; for me, that person is Positive Paul.

This chat came about because I shared with him a comment I made to someone who I believed could’ve been a good friend. Sadly, that didn’t pan out as I had hoped and like I said to Positive Paul, the brief exchange, spurts of banter/laughter was appreciated while it lasted and certainly gave me a different perspective.

No regrets.

Only gratitude.

So through this experience I realised that I’m actually in a good space; a space where it’s tickets for anyone who doesn’t appreciate my time or worth. Life is way too short for one sided relationships (family, friends) or to pretend to be anything than your authentic self.

You see, quirks and all, Positive Paul reminded me that the people who are meant to be in my life will appreciate:

• my off-key singing
• random comments / messages
• “complicated” laugh (only he knows what that means)
• midnight ramblings
• over-thinking and analysis of a situation

I guess he has a point because when all is said and done:

• I give wholeheartedly
• I give freely
• I give without expectation
• I am fiercely loyal
• I am brutally honest
• I like to talk
• I care – too much
• I cry when someone is sad or in pain
• I am a hopeless romantic
• Yes, I am an all or nothing person… and make no apologies for it. Because, I’m worth it!

Let me leave you with words of wisdom from former president, Nelson Mandela: “May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.”

Thank you for taking the time to read.

Appreciation, Childhood, Confused, day, Death, grace, heart, Heartache, Heaven, joy, Laugh, life, love, moment, news, peace, Sad, smile, Speechless, world

Don’t waste another moment.

Don’t miss an opportunity to show appreciation and love.

Don’t allow any negative interaction(s) to steal your peace and joy.

We lost a very special aunt earlier today. Our hearts are shattered and our minds are numb. In that moment when we received the news, it felt as though our collective world stood still.

The heartache was tangible and tears flowed freely like the Jordan. Whispers of: “Why? Why her? Why now? It’s not fair…” could be heard.

As someone who always has a Plan A and B, I found myself unable to move or even utter a word. Glued to my seat.

I find myself moving through different emotions.

Confused.

Angry.

Incredibly sad.

Losing an amazing person who played a significant part in your childhood is a bitter pill to swallow. The thought of not hearing that hearty laugh or seeing her Colgate smile is hard to digest.

It just seems unfair.

I’m thankful for the times we shared, the fond memories and advice she so eagerly dispensed. I know without a doubt she’s in Heaven and God has certainly welcomed her home with open arms.

For the rest of us, we need oceans of grace to keep going without her. One day at a time…

Thank you for taking the time to read.

P.S Love and appreciate those near and dear to you!

Appreciation, Call, choose, compassion, Email, fabulous, favoured, forgiveness, Good things; Reap what you sow, grow, heart, kindness, learn, Lesson, life, love, peace, Process, strength, Text, thank you, time

As you prepare to ride the wave of life this week, I hope that you will trust the process even though you don’t understand it.

I hope that you will open your heart and be receptive to receiving every good thing coming your way.

I hope that you will find the nerve to pick up the phone and make that call, send that text or email.

I hope that you will choose to learn the lesson and grow as opposed to wallowing in self-pity or any other toxic behaviour.

I hope that you will find the strength to say “I’m sorry, I forgive you” and continue to move on… walking in perfect peace as you should.

I hope that you will continue to give of your best (even if it appears that your efforts are not acknowledged or appreciated) for one day you shall reap the rewards.

I hope that when it comes down to the wire, that you will choose kindness, compassion and love. Always!

Thank you for taking the time to read.

Appreciation, compassion, Doctor, Dr WB Zieciak, Empathy, extraordinary, fabulous, favoured, heart, Humility, Patience, Prayer, Professionalism, selfless, Servant, Specialist

There are doctors and then there’s Dr WB Zieciak; an extraordinary ENT Specialist based in Durban.

My little nephew, Eli (I’ve written about him before) underwent a cochlear implant earlier this week; and we couldn’t have chosen a better surgeon to lead this life-changing procedure.

If this post sounds like I’m his number one praise singer, yes I am. You see, in this harsh, cruel, selfish world, when we cross paths with a good old fashion solid person, they deserve to be acknowledged and applauded.

From the first appointment to the day of the operation, Dr Zieciak has demonstrated empathy, compassion and a standard of professionalism that is second to none.

His warmth, patience and all round caring attitude helped us get through what is ordinarily a nerve-wracking procedure. But, even more admirable is his humility. I’m sure the mere thought of this post would see him shrugging his shoulders and muttering something along the lines of its a team effort. I’ve yet to meet such a selfless human being!

If ever you need an example of a servant’s heart then look no further than this man. Enough gushing…

My earnest prayer is that Dr Zieciak will continue to make a difference in the lives of those he meets; may he be blessed with good health, a sound mind and steady, healing hands. And most of all, may the love and peace he shares with his patients be returned to him a hundredfold IJN!

The next time you meet someone from the medical fraternity (or any other field) be sure to commend them for a job well done.

Thank you for taking the time to read.

Stay favoured & fabulous x
